Fattoria Il Muro Chianti Riserva DOCG 2016 Tuscany Italy

✌️ Fattoria Il Muro is a full-circle Tuscan farmstead and winery. Owned for over two centuries by the Pancaro family, they believe that fine wine begins with a love and respect for nature and the environment. Extending over 65 hectares, the estate raises hens and pigs and farms fruit and vegetables but the land is "made" for wine. Situated on 'galestro' soils - a mix of loose marl and limestone - and benefiting from a temperate climate regulated by the nearby Alpe di Ponti mountain range, Frattoria Il Muro possesses the perfect terroir for traditional Tuscan varietals: Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Malvasia and Vermentino.
Their Riserva represents the selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from their best vineyard «Galioffo vecchio», aged in traditional Tuscan big chestnut wood barrels. The use of chestnut barrels is their conscious choice to keep the tradition alive.
Taste: Aromas of ripe mulberry, smooth ripe dark cherry, cassis fruits, mushrooms, dried roses, with notes of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate. Well-balanced, velvety, with excellent structure and prolonged concentrated finish with persistent typical Sangiovese tang.❣️

In 1967, Chianti was classified DOC and has been classified as DOCG since 1984.  There are now 74 DOCG wines in Italy, most of them concentrated in the regions of Piemonte, Tuscany, and the Veneto.

What Is the Difference Between DOC and DOCG Wines?    The practical difference between DOC and DOCG is one of quality: DOC and DOCG wines are both wines with a designation of origin, but DOCG wines have an additional “garantita,” or guarantee, by the Italian government to be wines of especially high quality. Each DOCG-labeled wine must pass a wine quality tasting panel, while DOC wines must merely be grown and made in accordance with the rules of the appellation.
