The Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) status for Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato was granted in 2010 out of the region Asti-Piemonte. The general terroir is apprised by silt, clay, sand and limestone soils at elevations between 120-400m. At least 90 per cent ruché, with barbera and brachetto often used to blend.

Ruché is completely different than other grapes in Piedmont although it may remind you of the Brachetto variety. It boasts a classic Piemontese structure, its firm tannins reminiscent of Nebbiolo as well. Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato is one of the lowest production varietal wines in Italy (Limited to only 100 Acres)
